ACHHAM DISTRICT

Achham district lies in the mountain belt of Seti zone in the far western development region. It is surrounded by Doti in the west, Dailekh and Kalikot in the east; Surkhet in south and Bajura and Bajhang in the north. There are 75 VDCs in 13 Ilaka and two parliamentary constituencies. The population of Achham is 2,21,611 (49% women).

Out of 75 VDCs RCIW directly covers 12 VDCs and indirectly one. The total population of the project area is 37,167 from 6,289 households with an average family size of 6 and a population density of 122 per km. The literacy rate is 38%. The main castes of the area are Brahman, Chhetri, Thakuri and Kami. The main products are paddy, maize, wheat and potatoes. Farmers are still practicing traditional farming depending on rainfall.

The project area covers the most food-deficit VDCs in the district.
